Tourist Visa Services at the Portuguese Embassy in Cyprus

The Portuguese Embassy in Cyprus processes Schengen tourist visas for travelers who wish to visit Portugal and other Schengen Area countries for tourism purposes. The visa allows you to stay in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within 180 days.

Who Needs a Tourist Visa?

Visa-Free Travel

Cypriot citizens do NOT need a visa to visit Portugal or any other Schengen country, as Cyprus is an EU member state.

Citizens Who Need a Visa

Non-EU citizens residing in Cyprus who hold passports from countries requiring Schengen visas must apply. Other foreign citizens who wish to obtain a visa to visit (Schengen visa) or settle in Portugal (national visa) must present proof that they legally reside (valid residence title in Cyprus) in Cyprus.

Visa-Exempt Countries

Citizens from countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and many others can visit Portugal for up to 90 days without a visa. However, starting in 2025-2026, they will need to apply for ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) online before travel.

Application Process

1. Schedule an Appointment

  • The consular section of embassy of Portugal accepts visa applications exclusively through online appointments
  • Book through the e-visa platform
  • If no appointments are available, the embassy is currently full
  • Apply at least 1 month before travel

2. Personal Appearance Required

  • Applicants may provide proof of identity by presenting themselves and their valid identification document at the consular section upon applying for a visa
  • Biometric data (fingerprints) will be collected
  • Children must also appear in person

3. Special Requirements for Lebanon/Syria Residents

  • It is the responsibility of applicants residing in Lebanon or Syria to make the necessary travel arrangements to Cyprus to present themselves at our consular section
  • The embassy provides proof of appointment for travel purposes

Required Documents

Basic Requirements

  1. Valid passport – with at least two empty pages and valid for 3+ months beyond your stay
  2. Completed Schengen visa application form
  3. Recent passport photos (not older than 6 months)
  4. Travel medical insurance – minimum coverage of €30,000 for the entire Schengen area
  5. Proof of accommodation – hotel bookings or invitation letter
  6. Round-trip flight reservations
  7. Proof of financial means – bank statements for the last 3 months
  8. Employment certificate and salary slips
  9. Legal residence permit in Cyprus (for non-Cypriot applicants)

Additional Documents for Specific Cases

  • Minors: Written consent from both parents or legal guardian
  • Visiting family/friends: Invitation letter and proof of relationship
  • Business travel: Invitation from Portuguese company

Visa Fees

  • Standard fee: €60 (approximately)
  • Reduced fee: €35 (for certain nationalities)
  • Children under 6: Free
  • Fees are subject to monthly exchange rate changes
  • Fees are non-refundable if visa is denied

Processing Time

  • The minimum processing time for a short-stay visa in Portugal is two weeks, but based on your circumstances, the duration may be extended to up to 30 days
  • Certain nationalities may require additional consultation (7+ extra days)
  • During peak seasons, processing may take longer

Important Notes

Schengen Area Travel

  • Your Portuguese Schengen visa allows travel to all 27 Schengen countries
  • In the case of an urgent request, you can send us an e-mail indicating your full name, date of birth, relevant data on the appointment you intend to make and attach proof of your urgency

Special Cases

  • Palestinian travel documents: Portugal does not recognize the Lebanese travel document for Palestinian refugees
  • Alternative travel documents may be required

Collection

  • No appointment needed to collect your passport with visa
  • Check visa details carefully upon collection
